Youth Director- Jakob Guy
Meet Our Youth Leaders
About Jakob
Jakob was born to two believing parents and as a result, was raised in the Church his whole life. He came to the saving knowledge of Christ around the age of six but never fully understood Christ’s preservation of His saints until around the age of twelve when he rededicated his life to Christ. It was at that point that Jakob felt the call from God to be in ministry. During Junior High School and on into the early years of College at NEBC, he served at East Auburn Baptist Church in a variety of roles. Throughout most of those years, Jakob served as a small group leader for kids his age, and also played on numerous worship bands within. When he began college, he was transitioned into the role of worship leader and small group coordinator for the youth ministry of East Auburn.
Two years after beginning school at NEBC, Jakob met his future wife, Emmalie Fellows. They began dating on October 25, 2009 and were engaged just under a year later on September 2. They have been happily married since January 1, 2011 and are excited to continue to serve God in the context that He has them now. They gladly welcome and covet your prayers as they carry on in life together, seeking to submit to the Lordship of Christ in every way. In addition to serving FBC as Youth Director, Jakob still studies at NEBC and works part time at The Home Depot.
Our Other Leaders:
Emmalie Guy is Jakob’s wife; she serves well by co-planning some girls-only events as well as keeping Jakob thinking straight. Before getting married and moving to South Portland, she helped in the Youth Ministry at Grace Community Chapel in West Gardiner where she spent most of her life. She accepted Jesus Christ early on through her Church’s AWANA program and the prayers of her parents and has served Him ever since. In addition to being a great helpmate to Jakob and a constant encouragement to the girls in the ministry, she works as the Ward Clerk at South Portland Nursing Home and is a student at NEBC.
Rachel Madore is the “veteran” of the FBC youth group and kept the group afloat between Youth Directors. Check back soon for more information about her.
Jakob’s Vision for the Youth Ministry:
It is my desire to see the youth of this Church and our region grow in godliness and love Jesus above all things. In pursuit of that goal, I want to give the kids of our youth ministry the tools they need to mature in Christ. I believe that the gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes (Rom. 1.16). This means that I hope to make the gospel the center of everything we discuss in our youth ministry- we never get away from needing this power and must not neglect God’s Spirit in it and us. I also strive to work together with the parents of the kids so that the family may be strengthened and built up for the sake of Christ. It’s my philosophy that parents are the true youth leaders; I am just a guy who sees them less than three hours a week. So I aim to equip youth, but wish to do so ever increasingly through their parents.
Stay Connected:
We do so much around here that it is often difficult to stay connected with our ministry. That’s why we have set up the So Po Youth Facebook page. Please visit it often and “Like” us to stay up to speed with where we are at!
