Thank you for taking the time to check out our website.  If you want to know what the First Baptist Church of South Portland is all about, just think about these three words: Friendly, Family and Faithful. We are a church family that seeks “to bring Jesus into your life.”  With that in mind, allow me to define these three words.

Friendly: When guests visit our church, many of them comment about the church’s friendly atmosphere, as they are warmly greeted by several members. There is a welcoming spirit within our congregation because God the Father has qualified and adopted each person who has received Christ by faith. We are no longer enemies of God but friends with and children of God.

Family: Each of the church members possesses a unique and personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as they have been “born-again” into God’s family. Our church family is made up of all kinds of people- disabled and healthy, young and old, married and divorced, widows and widowers. Some are single and some are looking. We have teachers, bankers, musicians, salespeople, pilots, accountants, nurses, truckers, administrators, and retired folks; they come from all walks of life. And what binds us together is our relationship with Christ, Who enables us to be accepting of each other, by His grace. Our relationship with Christ allows us to share our lives with one another. We seek to bear one another’s burdens, especially when we experience disappointments, tribulations, and tragedies. But we also know how to rejoice with one another. There is warmth in our church family because we care and accept one another. We are a friendly family, not a religious group of people.

Faithful: As a church family, we strive to remain faithful to God and to the Word of God, the Bible. We understand that we are involved in an epic battle for the souls of men, women, and children. Yet, we know that this spiritual war was won three days after Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross at Mount Calvary, when He was physically resurrected from the dead and all authority had been given over to Him. Nevertheless, we still experience daily battles against the evil forces that are present in our world today. Their goal is to keep people from understanding the Scripture, even to the point of stealing It from them after the Word of God is sown into their hearts and minds. As a church family, we are careful to teach Scripture, to pray, and to encourage one another to live lives pleasing to God.

We believe that by being a friendly and faithful family, this church not only strengthens its connectedness, but it also reflects the heart of God Who reaches out to those who are seeking peace from their inner turmoil of sin and guilt.

His servant and son forever and ever,
